Questions?
Frequently asked questions.
What Can I Expect from Counseling?
If this is your first time scheduling a session with us, or maybe even the first time you have decided to talk to a professional for guidance, we are here to help! We look forward to meeting you and strive to provide the positive support you need. Please read below with how to get started on your journey for better mental health!
How Soon Can I Start?
For convenience, we typically offer same-day or next-day in-office or Telehealth sessions. Please call (817) 238-0106 for prompt services.
How Do I Get Started?
A member of our professional support staff will speak with you over the phone to schedule your appointment. We will be happy to recommend a counselor based on your goals, preferences, or the problems you may be struggling with. You may also view the counselor’s profile online for additional information.
At the first session, you will meet with your counselor and discuss your counseling goals and expectations. Your counselor will create a specialized treatment plan based on your initial concerns and the issues you may need help with. We strive to ensure it’s a good fit, but if you start the process and you feel your counselor isn’t a good fit for you, you may elect to be matched to a different counselor. Call or email and we will immediately make the switch to ensure your satisfaction.
Do You Have Online Therapy Services?
Yes, you can speak with your counselor over the phone or video conference them via a secure web connection. Let us know when you schedule your appointment, and we will be happy to help you connect. If your schedule changes at the last minute, we will make the switch to whatever is convenient for you!
What Are My Counselor’s Qualifications?
All of our counselors are licensed in the state of Texas, have academic degrees in relevant fields, and have extensive hands-on experience. LWC carefully selects counselors with areas of specialization, training and certifications to uniquely serve our clients and a variety of mental health needs.
For children under the age of 18, we ask parent(s) to attend a parent- only consultation.
You will have the opportunity to meet with the counselor alone and make sure it’s a good fit overall for you and your child for follow-up sessions. This also helps you prepare for the child’s first visit alone and any uncertainty the child may have about attending counseling and meeting the counselor for the first time!
How Do I Complete My Registration Paperwork?
We will send you an electronic email link to complete the online registration forms. If you did not receive the link, please call our office by phone (817) 238-0106 or email info@lwc.care. The online registration process is private and HIPPA secure.
What Is Your Cancellation Policy?
24-hour notice of cancellation is required OR, if your appointment follows a weekend or Holiday, cancellation notice is required no later than Saturday by 3:00 PM. LWC has a strict attendance policy to serve clients who are waiting to be seen. If a cancellation is made outside of the cancellation window, the credit card kept on file will be charged at the time of the late-canceled appointment. Cancellation Fee is $150.00 or $75.00 Associate/Intern Self Pay
If a client simply does not show up for a scheduled appointment, a No-Show fee of $150.00 shall be charged at the time of the missed appointment.
How Often Do I Have to Attend?
Weekly sessions are recommended unless there are special circumstances. The length of your therapy is based on your unique needs and goals, and you can decide to terminate counseling services at any time. However, regular attendance is important in order to make ongoing progress. Ultimately, once your goals have been achieved you will attend a final termination session in conclusion.
Is Counseling Worth the Cost and Investment?
When it comes to improving the quality of life, counseling is a smart investment! It may take as few as 3 to 6 counseling sessions to see marked improvement, however clients report feeling relief after just one session!
What is a Parent Intake Session?
The purpose of this visit is for you to discuss your immediate concerns and for the counselor to gather as much information as possible to help your child. One or both parents may attend this session. We ask children to stay at home for this appointment so they do not interpret the first session as ‘punishment’ or primarily ‘problem focused’. Your counselor will also guide you in how to approach the counseling process with your child.
Does My Ex-Spouse/Partner Have to Attend the Parent Intake Session?
No, your ex does not have to attend the intake session with you unless you prefer, however we do typically request both parents to consent for the child’s treatment. This allows for transparency within the counseling process and to help provide overall positive support for your child while they are in counseling. We ultimately hope to establish a good working relationship with both parents when appropriate but we realize this may not always be possible for a variety of reasons.
What Documentation Needs to Be Provided for Divorced Parents?
Please bring a copy of the child custody/visitation agreement for file. This legal agreement verifies who is able to make mental health decisions for your child in order to attend counseling. Texas State Board guidelines require us to have this document on file before the child is seen. Please discuss any concerns you may have with your counselor.
Are My Counseling Sessions Confidential?
Counselors are required to uphold strict confidentiality requirements of the Texas State Board and respective state laws. The counselor will keep what you tell them confidential, but there are limited exceptions. For example, if you threaten to harm yourself or an identifiable victim, the counselor is required to report this information to relevant authorities. Before starting therapy, please discuss with your counselor their legal obligations to confidentiality if you have any questions or concerns.
What if I Have an Emergency?
If you are experiencing a life- threatening emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
