Psychological Testing
& Evaluations
About Psychological Evaluations
Psychological Evaluations are designed to assess a variety of conditions, including mental health disorders, personality disorders, learning disabilities and developmental and neurocognitive challenges. A Psychological professional evaluation can assist in treatment planning, medical treatment and provide recommendations toward recovery and wellness.
A Licensed Psychologist will meet with you for an initial 1-hour consultation to discuss your unique needs for testing. Next, a face-to-face testing session will be scheduled at a convenient day and time for you. Depending on the scope and complexity, the testing process can take several hours or span over a few days. Upon completion, you will be provided with a comprehensive report with a detailed profile. A psychological report may be provided to a professional for consideration of counseling services, medication management, academic or 504 accommodations, medical referral, ABA therapy, or disability.
The types of testing that may be included in a comprehensive evaluation are listed below, click for further details.
Neurobehavioral &Neurodevelopmental Evaluations
Can assess a variety of concerns, including psychological and intellectual disabilities, language disorders, neurodevelopment disorders, trauma, and neurocognitive disorders. Our evaluations can assess for memory impairment and adaptive functioning and provide a picture of an individual’s current neuropsychological functioning. ADHD and Autism diagnosis typically fall into this category of testing.
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects adults and children. ADHD can cause deficits in the ability to function in personal, social, and academic domains. ADHD is defined by impairing levels of inattention and/or hyperactivity/impulsivity.
Please note that most insurance companies will not approve psychological testing to assess solely for a diagnosis of ADHD. They typically require other mental health, neurodevelopmental, or neurocognitive symptoms and diagnoses to be present to approve funding for the evaluation.
Autism Evaluations
The evaluation is a comprehensive evaluation and is characterized by two main features a). persistent deficits in social communication across multiple contexts, and b) restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviors, interests, or activities. Autism testing encourages early screening and intervention as it is paramount to achieve improved communication and social abilities. An autism evaluation will help determine the presence of social communication deficits and restricted, repetitive patterns of interests, behaviors, or activities. Observational testing is used to observe your child while he or she is engaged in play or other structured activities. We also administer comprehensive questionnaires to parents/caregivers regarding symptoms related to autism spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental disorders. In addition, our team will also assess cognitive functioning via an intelligence test (to rule out the potential of an intellectual disability as the cause for the child/adult’s symptom presentation), and we assess for other factors such as adaptive functioning, language ability, and behavioral symptoms.
Psychoeducational Evaluation
IQ & Achievement Evaluation, LD Evaluation or Gifted Evaluation. This may include IQ and Achievement tests, and cognitive testing which will provide in-depth information on several factors of intelligence, academic strengths and weaknesses, cognitive functioning, and the presence of a learning disability (e.g., specific learning disorders, dyslexia, cognitive impairments, IQ, achievement tests).
